Here is an example of a simple ritual to help you settle into a meditation practice session:
- Light a candle and / or some incense as a symbol that you are about to enter "holy ground”
- Take off your shoes to honour this sacred space and time
- Place your shoes neatly behind you where you can’t see them as a symbol of leaving the world behind you for a few minutes
- Cover your shoulders and feet with a light blanket or cloth if your surroundings are chilly or drafty to ensure optimal physical comfort.
- Start your guided meditation through your CD player or iPod, OR
- If you do solo-meditation, set an alarm clock to go off softly in 20 minutes (or more or less, depending on the time you choose for your session). This way, you don’t have to check your watch during the practice
- At the end of your practice session, fold your blanket, blow out the candle, put your shoes on and step back into the world.
